While it has been a bit quiet on the news front lately for Syfy’s Krypton, two new characters have been cast! Deadline reports that Blake Ritson (Da Vinci’s Demons) and Paula Malcomson (Ray Donovan) have been tapped for two major roles in the new Superman prequel.
Ritson, who has been added as a series regular, will be playing the villainous DC character Brainiac who will be one of the evil forces in Season 1. Krypton’s version of Brainiac is described as “a parasitic, hyper-advanced alien android of immense intelligence, Brainiac is one of Superman’s oldest and most dangerous foes.”
Malcolmson, who will be on as a guest recurring cast member, is set to play the Man of Steel’s great-grandmother Charys, the matriarch of House El. The mother of Seg-El (Cameron Cuffe), Charys “helps her son Seg navigate the treacherous pitfalls of Kandor City, their Kryptonian home embattled with oppression and revolt.”
According to Deadline, Malcolmson will be taking over the role of Charys as the role got recast after the pilot. It was never announced who was originally playing Charys in the pilot. Ritson and Malcolmson’s casting follows the recent addition of Shaun Sipos as DC’s Adam Strange. “Set two generations before the destruction of the legendary Man of Steel’s home planet, KRYPTON follows Superman’s grandfather (Cameron Cuffe, “The Halcyon”) — whose House of El was ostracized and shamed — as he fights to redeem his family’s honor and save his beloved world from chaos. Based on DC characters, KRYPTON is from Warner Horizon Scripted Television and is executive produced by David S. Goyer (“Man of Steel,” “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” “The Dark Knight” trilogy) through his Phantom Four banner. Damian Kindler (“Sleepy Hollow”) will serve as executive producer and showrunner.
In addition to Cuffe, KRYPTON stars Georgina Campbell (“Broadchurch”), Elliot Cowan (“Da Vinci’s Demons”), Ann Ogbomo (“World War Z”), Rasmus Hardiker (“Your Highness”), Wallis Day (“Will”), Aaron Pierre (“Tennison”) with Ian McElhinney (“Game of Thrones”).
The pilot teleplay was written by Goyer and Kindler, from a story by Ian Goldberg (“Once Upon a Time,” “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles”) & Goyer, with Colm McCarthy (“She Who Brings Gifts,” “Peaky Blinders”) serving as director and co-executive producer.KRYPTON is based on characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, published by DC.”
